DNA Replication Enzymes

The enzymes involved in DNA replication are the drivin gforce behind the process. There are three principle enzymes involved and they are described below:
  • Helicase - This enzyme harnesses the chemical energy of ATP and separates the two parental DNA strands at the replication fork.
  • DNA Polymerase - this enzyme exists in several forms and each form has a different job. basically speaking though, DNA polymerase primes the strand, adds base pairs, and repairs damages inflcited to the strands during the process.
  • Ligase - puts the two strands back together again once replication of each section is complete.
  • dna polymerase molecule
