eReadingPro is a Whole Word Approach to Learning to read

I first saw eReadingPro in action over at a friend's house. I already told you I pieced together a program for Little Moe that used just about everything out there and the sight words were a major focus for us.

eReadingPro uses the same basics concepts that I did, only they do it in a much more organized and cost efficient way.

I probably spent a good $300 on Little Moe's first grade reading program when you combine it all up. (I bought two whole programs!) But it sure would have been nice to have a package that I could've purchased that saved me all that trouble.

The eReadingPro products come in all price ranges, which is nice because you can purchase only the things you can afford, one at a time. Or you can purchase the whole thing and be done with it.

Reading is THE most important skill your child will ever learn and I truly feel that you set them up for lifetime success at this stage in their education. An investment in reading is the one major purchase you should make for your younger kids.

Now, when your kids get older and reading is now a skill they have mastered, that is when I would switch that focus over to math. In the later years you want to spend your precious dollars on Math, but right now - Reading takes priority over all the others. The eReadingPro program has the following features:

1. It does not use the very confusing Dolch list of words
2. Vocabulary is based on things they use and see everyday - so everyday words
3. It does not use 'word families' (such as hat, cat, sat, mat) because it confuses the heck out of them. New readers need to see the differences, not the similarities
4. It used extra-large flashcards (4" x 20") printed in red ink
5. They never mix words and pictures on the same cards or present the words and pictures together
6. The sessions are short and the kids are not overwhelmed with vocabulary - this helps!
7. The daily schedule is repeated in such a way that kids come to understand the pattern and know what to expect
8. The program first focuses on sight words, word meanings, and word context to build comprehension skills
9. My favorite part - it's FAST and it's SIMPLE (10 minutes a day I can handle!)
