Learning About Cell BiologyCellular Components The Endomembrane System Golgi Apparatus Vesicles and Cellular Transport The Mitochondria The Plasma Membrane The Golgi ComplexThe Golgi complex can be compared to a warehouse, shipping, and processing center. This organelle is the site of manufacturing warehousing, srting, and shipping. here, the products from the ER are modified and stored, and then sent to other destinations. not surpirsingly, the Golgi apparatus is especially extensive in cells specialized for secretion. The Golgi consists of flattened membranous sacs called cisternae. It looks a little bit like a stack of pita bread or pancakes. A cell may have several of these stacks. The membrane of the each cisterna in a stack separates its internal space from the cytosol. Vesicles concentrated in the vicinity of the Golgi are engaged in the transfer of material between the Golgi and other structures. One unique feature of the Golgi is that it is polarized, that is the two sides are not the same. One side is the area where proteins enter for processing and one side is where the proteins exit for delivery. The entrance side is called the cis side and the exit side is called the trans side. To be released first are complete courses on Sea Mammals, The Ocean, Mammals, Space, and Bugs. Each course is 20 units long, about 100 pages, contains a special section for pre-schoolers, and enough high quality graphics to keep everyone interested. PLUS - there are 3 worksheets of varying levels for each unit. Simple just got easier! The Simple StoreAll Simple Schooling unit study courses as well as the Simple Days, will be on sale in the Store. We are hoping to add two new courses every month in 2009.Courses scheduled for February release are: Forensic Science Available February 15th(Upper grades) Human Anatomy I Available March 30 (upper grades)
