Homeschool Literature ProgramsI LOVE Teaching Literature! Not that it is always easy to teach, but there is nothing better than taking a trip down memory lane as you sift through all the great classic stories that have fascinated kids for generations. Curriculum choices for homeschool literature, unfortunately, are few and far between, but don't let that deter you. Figuring out a way to implement a home-made curriculum is so easy, just do the following steps: The Simple Homeschool has already put together an Elementary and Middle School Reading List as well as an Upper Middle and High School List so all you have to do is find a few you and your child will enjoy. It is always a good idea when assigning reading books to keep their interests in mind. There is no point in assigning The Three Musketeers if they are only going to be turned off in the process. (I hated that book and I use it every time I need an example of forced reading.) In 2007 I left behind Pathway Readers for Little Moe and we started with literature (6th grade) and I made doubly sure that every single book was geared towards boys, dogs, and wilderness. I think reading is one of his favorite subjects now. Of course your son might be interested in something completely different so don't just take my suggestions. A great place to look for children's literature is over at Best Childrens Books where you will find a while slew of book reviews and tips about kids and reading. Or you can check out the pages right here at The Simple Homeschool. Either way, you're guaranteed to come up with some great ideas for your homeschool literature program. If you need homeschool literature ideas don't forget to check out the reading lists. Leave The Homeschool Literature and Go To Elementary Reading Lists!
