Learning About Cell BiologyCellular Components The Endomembrane System Golgi Apparatus Vesicles and Cellular Transport The Mitochondria The Plasma Membrane Leave Mitochondria Function and Go To The Student Help Center Mitochondria FunctionThe mitochondria function as the metabolic centers of the cell by participating in cellular respiration. Cellular respiration is the catabolic process by which ATP is generated via water, oxygen, and energy extracted form carbohydrates, fats, and other fuels. The mitochondria, like the Golgi and ER, have a double membrane but they are not part of the endomembrane system of the cell because they are made via free ribosomes in the cytoplasm. They even contain their own small amount of DNA, called mitochondrial DNA. This mitochondrial DNA directs the synthesis of proteins made by the mitochondrial ribosomes that occur on the surface of the outer membrane. To be released first are complete courses on Sea Mammals, The Ocean, Mammals, Space, and Bugs. Each course is 20 units long, about 100 pages, contains a special section for pre-schoolers, and enough high quality graphics to keep everyone interested. PLUS - there are 3 worksheets of varying levels for each unit. Simple just got easier! The Simple StoreAll Simple Schooling unit study courses as well as the Simple Days, will be on sale in the Store. We are hoping to add two new courses every month in 2009.Courses scheduled for February release are: Forensic Science Available February 15th(Upper grades) Human Anatomy I Available March 30 (upper grades)
