Singapore Math Teaches Kids Using Unique Methods.
Not everyone likes them either.
OK, I'm not going to be too negative on poor Singapore Math because if you understand how to teach it,
it is awesome and teaches not only HOW to solve the problem using algorithms but to THINK CRITICALLY about WHY you do what you do to solve the problems.
So for me, I don't care about the why. I'm good at math but I don't understand the WHY of math.
I leave that for the math nerds. I am a science nerd and that means I NEED math to solve my science, I don't really need to understand complicated number theory.
I mean don't get me wrong - if I had those kind of mad math skills I'd be all over it, but I don't.
My Little Moe and Suzy Q were made like me.
We did use this program for Suzy Q back in the day and it was difficult for her, but eventually she got through it. We later switched to Saxon.
I think it is an excellent program for the RIGHT kid. One who likes number theory and likes to understand the WHY of the algorithms and not just the HOW. It will most definitely prepare kids for college level calculus if they complete the series.
And - you need to be able to understand HOW to teach it as well. That was a problem for me when we used it. DIVE needs to make a Singapore CD tutor and then we'll be all set.
